2. Question: What is the product code for the new AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Scooter Oil?

Answer: The product code is ASO.

3. Question: Is the new AMSOIL Scooter Oil relabeled automotive oil?

Answer: No. This oil has been developed specifically to meet the unique needs of modern high tech motorized scooter applications, including high temperatures and high rpms. Also, because many scooter owners use these machines on a sporadic basis, it is important to have a product that is designed to provide protection while the scooter is not in use.

4. Question: What is so different about the operation of a scooter that makes them special?

• Scooter transmissions are nothing but gear sets. These gears shear the oil causing it to thin out, and most scooters use the same oil in both their transmissions and engines.

• Scooters contain clutch materials that have special frictional properties. These frictional clutches immersed in oil are common on scooters.

• Scooters have different needs and place different demands on engine oils. They need oil with the ability to meet those special needs: AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Scooter Oil.

6. Question: Where applications are best suited for the new Scooter Oil?

Answer: AMSOIL 10W-40 Scooter Oil was developed specifically for the unique needs of air and/or water-cooled, 4-stroke motorized scooters. Manufacturers include Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Vespa, Aprilia, Piaggio, Benelli, Vento, Kymco, Tank and TGB. This oil can be used in any 4-stroke scooter engine calling for a 10W-40 product. It is also recommended for transmissions and gearboxes in both 2 and 4-stroke scooters when a 10W-40 product is specified.

7. Question: What packaging sizes are available?

Answer: New AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Scooter Oil is available in quarts, stock code ASO-QT for individuals and ASO-01 for cases of 12.

8. Question: Has the product been formulated to provide protection during periods of non-use? Answer: AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke, Scooter Oil contains an advanced rust and corrosion additive package. This package provides the additional protection required during prolonged periods on non-use and storage. Remember, just because an engine is not running does not mean that damage is not occurring.

9. Question: Can this oil be used in applications other than scooters?

Answer: AMSOIL Scooter Oil can be safely used in any application calling for an SAE 10W-40 motor oil meeting API service classification SG or SL/CF.

10. Question: Will AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Scooter Oil cause a wet clutch to slip?

Answer: No. ASO contains no friction modifiers and meets the frictional requirements as outlined in JASO standard T903:2006 MA/MA2 as it pertains to wet clutch compatibility.

11. Question: Many of today’s oils contain less zinc and phosphorous, and that can be a negative in scooter and motorcycle engines. How does this oil stack up?

Question: What is the recommended drain interval for AMSOIL Scooter Oil? Answer: AMSOIL Scooter Oil is manufactured to the same high quality standards, but because of the variety of scooter types, and in many cases the lack of filtration, the equipment manufacturers drain interval recommendations should be followed. 14. Question: Does a scooter really need synthetic oil? Petroleum products are much cheaper. Answer: There are cheaper oils available that may be adequate for scooter applications, but in today’s high tech scooters, adequate is just not good enough. Motorcycle sales have been on a steady increase for 14 straight years, and high gas prices continue to attract even more customers to the world of motorcycling.

Motorcycle sales have been on a steady upward climb since 1993, and 2006 is on pace to be the 14th straight year of increased motorcycle and scooter sales. In fact, according to the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), sales numbers for the first half of 2006 were up 10.9 percent over the first half of 2005 among the 15 leading motorcycle brands. Sales of on-highway motorcycles were up 11 percent, while scooter sales increased 19.7 percent compared to the first half of 2005.

“It’s exciting to see continued, growing interest in motorcycling across America, and that there are more and more reasons for the demand,” said MIC president Tim Buche. “There has been a lot of attention paid to motorcycle and scooter sales this year because of rising fuel prices. The reality is that a long-time trend of increasing motorcycle sales,now more than a dozen years strong, just continues revving along. Sales have gone up every year since 1993. That’s when the first ‘Jurassic Park’ was the summer blockbuster and you could buy gas for under $1.50.”

Buche cites high gas prices as a major reason for the increased popularity of motorcycles and scooters. “With many motorcycles capable of 50 to 70 miles per gallon, and many scooters getting 60 to 80 mpg, dealerships and manufacturers are fielding a lot more inquiries about fuel economy,” said Buche. “But during the past 14 years, motorcycling also has found its way into the fabric of American culture, with two-wheeling getting pastold stereotypes and gaining acceptance and traction as a great form of transportation and recreation.”

Motorcycle and scooter sales eclipsed the one million mark for the third straight year in 2005, rivaling the high sales levels of the 1970s. With over 1.5 million sales, motorcycling popularity reached a zenith in 1973, and sales remained high throughout the 1970s before cooling considerably in the 1980s and early 1990s. The comeback startedin 1993, and sales have increased every year since.

“The motorcycle demographic is widening, from baby boomers who are coming back to bikes, to Generation Y Americans into adventure sports, entire families and growing numbers of women who ride,” said Buche. “Motorcycles, scooters, even gear and leather riding jackets are more fashionable than ever. We used to have to look hard to find positive motorcycle imagery in pop culture. Now you see bikes everywhere, spicing up advertisements for a wide range of major industries, in fashion layouts, in runway shows, in store windows, in art museums, in the form of toys at the local department store and with many celebrities, CEOs and folks from all walks of life.”
